Броими и неброими съществителни в английския език

На английски език има голяма група съществителни, които не могат да бъдат преброени, например можем да кажем luggage (багаж), но не и one luggage, two luggages, three luggages. Затова се наричат неброими съществителни или uncountable nouns.

За тях важи следното:
- нямат множествено число (informationS porkS, furnitureS),
- преди тях няма “a” или “an” (a pasta, a cheese, an advice),
- глаголът след тях е в единствено число, както при той/тя/то (My luggage IS heavy; The ice-cream TASTES nice.)

Такива често са думи от следните групи:
1. Събирателни: luggage (но "suitcases"), furniture (но "chairs, tables"), machinery (но "machines"), food, cash, underwear, mail, equipment, garbage, litter, rubbish;
2. Неща, които нямат собствена форма:
- течности и газове: fuel, oil, petrol, lava, wine, water, blood, rum, whiskey, beer, coffee, tea, alcohol, juice, honey,  milk, soup, oxygen, gas, nitrogen, carbon, methane, hydrogen;
- видове месо (но не и животни!): bacon, chicken, lamb, beef, pork, veal, meat, fish;
- които съдържат дребни частици: flour, soil, coffee, sugar, sand, salt, dust, rice;
- на които бива придадена форма: bread, butter, ice, ice cream, pasta, spaghetti, cheese, mayonnaise, jam, soap;
2. Абстрактни: advice, help, fun, recreation, enjoyment, information, knowledge, news, patience, happiness, progress, confidence, courage, education, intelligence, space, energy, laughter, peace, pride
3. Природни материали: wool, cotton, leather, glass, paper, wood, timber, iron, gold, marble, zinc;
4. Предмети и научни сфери: advertising, archaeology, architecture, arithmetic, art, biology, chemistry, commerce, economics, education, engineering, entertainment, physics, ethics, mathematics, music, photography, grammar,  history, politics, sociology, psychology, vocabulary, poetry, zoology, management, literature, ethics;
5. Спортове и дейности: athletics, baseball, basketball, bridge, chess, cooking, cricket, dancing,  driving, football, golf, hockey, judo, listening, tennis, soccer, rugby, poker, swimming, walking, jogging, reading, writing, speaking, sleeping, studying, working, yoga, gymnastics, karate, shopping;
6. Езици: English, Portuguese, Hindi, Arabic, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, French, Russian, Italian, Hebrew, Chinese
